While the majority of the day may be spent coding, it’s important to not spend the entire day in front of screens! Throughout the day, students will be able to partake in multiple activities away from computers, including:

Panda Programmer Coding Camp sessions are one week in duration, from Monday through Friday. In 2023, we will be offering 10 One-Week Sessions throughout the entire MCPS Summer Vacation! (and YES, we are open on July 4th)
As with previous years, we will be offering full-day and half-day sessions. Each sessions lasts a week, with full-day lasting 9am – 4pm, whereas half-day has the choice of morning (9am – 12pm) or afternoon (1pm – 4pm). Additionally, this year we will be offering Aftercare once more, available from 4pm – 6pm at an additional cost.
There are multiple discounts available for parents! As a result of our 1-week sessions, parents are able to customize their camps to fit their summer plans — receive a 10% discount for each camp past the first! Additionally, each sibling beyond the first enrolled will receive a 10% discount.
Our curriculum is our typical Panda Programmer curriculum, which consists of the following topics:
Scratch Jr is a great introduction to block programming and logical thinking for our younger students (typically grades 2 and below) to get the knack of programming. These younger students do not need to type in order to master the topic
Scratch is a block-based visual programming language and website targeted primarily at children to help learn code. Users of the site can create online projects using a block-like interface. The service is developed by the MIT Media Lab, has been translated into 70+ languages, and is used in most parts of the world. It is fully a “real programming language” and features variables, boolean logic, functions, operators, and powerful graphics capabilities
Advanced Scratch continues the Scratch curriculum to build upon previous lessons to create a solid programming foundation. It continues to explore kids creativity in creating bigger and better games, introducing more concepts such as functions and implementation of physics.
Coding and computer science is challenging and fun, but when our students use their programming skills to control physical machines like robots, their sense of accomplishment reaches entirely new levels.
Python is a high-level and general-purpose programming language. Python’s design philosophy emphasizes code readability and efficiency. Python is the programming language of choice for many professional computer programmers
Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is the standard markup language for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser. JavaScript is a scripting language used to create and control dynamic website content, including animated graphics and interactive forms
